Designer Contracts, the UK’s largest flooring contractor, is supporting a Mount Everest climb for The Furniture Makers’ Company, the furnishing industry’s charity.
Damian Walters, chief executive of the British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI), is to raise £100,000 for the charity, by attempting to scale the icy precipices of Mount Everest’s summit.
After flying from London to Kathmandu, Nepal, Damian’s journey to the summit of Everest will see him drive up the narrow, winding mountain roads of the infamous Silk Route and onto the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge and the high altitude border between Nepal and Tibet.
From there, Damian will travel up into Everest base camp in Tibet, China at just under 17,000ft above sea level. The expedition will then work their way up to intermediate base camp (18,000ft) and then onto advance base camp at 20,000ft.
He’ll then spend three to four weeks acclimatising to the high altitude by tackling local peaks, before the climb up the mountain.
Peter Kelsey, md said: “Designer Contracts is delighted to sponsor Damian’s Everest challenge in aid of the Furniture Maker’s charity.
“With its extensive education programme for schools, students and young professionals, together with the help that it gives to people in its industry who are facing financial hardship or a personal crisis, the charity is an invaluable cause.
“We will be following Damian’s journey with anticipation and wish him every luck with his epic climb.”
